Old Fashioned Cherry Cookies

This recipe for homemade old-fashioned cherry cookies white chocolate is a holiday classic, and are the perfect treat for any tea party or celebration.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups cherry chips or 1 cup freshly chopped cherries
  • 3/4 cup white chocolate chunks or chips
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup butter

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F, and line 3 baking sheets with parchment paper. You can also use just one baking tray at a time and refrigerate or freeze the rest of the cookie dough.
  2. In a large bowl, combine and cream together the butter, shortening, brown sugar, and granulated sugar.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and eggs and mix to combine.
  4. Whisk together the flour, salt, and baking soda in a bowl, then add to the butter mixture and stir together until the cookie dough is formed.
  5. Add the cherry chips or freshly chopped cherries, and white chocolate, and combine them with the mixture.
  6. Drop the cookies using a rounded tablespoon onto the cookie sheet separating them apart about 3inches.
  7. Place the baking tray into the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges of the cherry cookies are golden brown.
  8. Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking tray for 5 minutes then transfer them onto a wire rack and completely cool.
  9. Keep these cherry cookies stored in an air-tight container, they will keep for up to 2 weeks.
