Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies Recipe - Mrs. Allen's Cookies

An old fashioned sugar cookie recipe handed down through generations. This makes a very soft cake like cookie that is perfect for dunking.  These have a nice rich flavor and are made with sour cream.

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp lemon fresh squeezed juice
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • 3 eggs separated

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy. Add sour cream, lemon juice, egg yolks, and vanilla. Mix well.
  2. In a separate bowl, sift the flour with the baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and baking soda.
  3. Slowly add the flour mixture to the batter. Mix well until it begins to form a ball.
  4. Beat egg whites until they begin to form stiff peaks. Slowly fold into the batter.
  5. Working in batches, take 1 cup of dough and dust with enough flour to be able to roll the dough on a floured surface to ⅓" thick.
  6. Using a biscuit cutter, cut into 2" rounds.
  7. Place on parchment paper about 2" apart. Place one raisin in the middle of each cookie.
  8. Bake for about 8-10 minutes at 350 F
