Olive Garden Fried Mozzarella Sticks

Olive Garden Fried Mozzarella Sticks are thickly cut mozzarella cheese pieces coated in a seasoned flour and breadcrumb mixture, then quickly deep-fried until golden and crisp. The batter and breading provide a sturdy shell that contains the melted cheese inside while maintaining a crunchy texture. Serving with Italian spaghetti sauce adds a complementary tang and herbaceous note to the rich fried cheese.

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces mozzarella cheese
  • 2 egg beaten
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs Italian style
  • 1/2 teaspoons garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 2/3 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch

  1. If your cheese is in a brick, slice it thick and cut the cheese crossways to make triangles. Beat the eggs with water and set aside. Mix the bread crumbs, garlic salt, and Italian seasonings and set aside. Blend the flour with cornstarch and set aside.
  2. Heat vegetable oil for deep frying to 360 degrees. 
  3. Dip cheese in flour and cornstarch blend, then in egg wash and coat with breadcrumbs.
  4. Place cheese carefully in hot oil and fry until golden; this takes just a few seconds so watch carefully. When golden, remove from hot oil and drain.
  5. Serve with your favorite Italian spaghetti sauce and enjoy. 

Notes

  • Chill the cheese beforehand to help prevent it from melting too quickly during frying.
  • Use high melting point cheeses like Paneer, Queso Blanco, or Halloumi as alternative frying options.
  • Ensure the cheese is thoroughly coated to prevent oozing during frying.
  • Do not overcrowd the frying oil to maintain temperature and proper frying results.
