One Pot Italian Sausage Shells and Cheese

In one pot and under 45 minutes, prepare this Italian style Shells and Cheese recipe, filled with flavorful sausage, tomato sauce, and three cheeses!

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ cup onion diced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pound loose Italian Sausage hot or mild, whatever your preference!
  • 12 ounces small pasta shells
  • 2 ½ cups chicken broth
  • 8 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 ounces cream cheese cubed
  • ¼ cup Parmesan Cheese grated
  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese grated

Instructions

  1. Add the olive oil to a large pot or dutch oven over medium heat.
  2. Once the oil is hot, add the onion, sauté 3-4 minutes, then add the garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
  3. Add the Italian sausage and cook through, 7-9 minutes.
  4. Add the pasta shells, chicken broth, tomato sauce and Italian seasoning.
  5. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
  6. Cover, reduce heat to low and cook 15-20 minutes, or until pasta is tender.
  7. Remove the lid, add the cream cheese, parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese.
  8. Stir until the cheese melts into the dish, cooking for an additional 3-4 minutes.
