Oreo Balls

This recipe for Oreo balls is Oreo cookie filled truffles dipped in chocolate, then decorated in a variety of sprinkles. Oreo balls are perfect for gift giving around the holidays and also make great party favors.

Ingredients

  • 36 Oreo cookies
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 16 ounces candy melts or chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening ONLY use shortening if you're using chocolate chips, you do not need to add it to candy melts
  • 1/2 cup Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Place the Oreo cookies in a food processor and pulse until crumbs form.
  2. Pour the cookie crumbs into a bowl and add the cream cheese. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Roll the dough into 1 inch balls. Place the balls on a sheet pan lined with parchment or a non stick baking mat.
  4. Freeze for 20 minutes or until firm.
  5. Heat the chocolate/candy melts in the microwave in 30 second increments until melted. Stir until smooth.
  6. If you are using chocolate chips, stir in the shortening.
  7. Use a fork to dip each ball in the chocolate. Tap the fork against the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate.
  8. Transfer each dipped ball to parchment paper and top with sprinkles. Chill the balls in the refrigerator until firm. 
  9. Serve, or store the balls in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, or freezer for up to 2 months.

Notes

  • You can make the Oreo truffle centers up to a day in advance. Cover them loosely with plastic wrap and refrigerate until you’re ready to dip them in chocolate.
  • Use a tablespoon or cookie dough scoop to make sure your balls are all the same size.
