Overnight French Toast
Overnight French Toast is a baked custard-style dish made by soaking thick slices of French bread overnight in a cinnamon-vanilla egg and milk mixture. A topping of brown sugar caramelizes during baking, creating a soft, sweet, and warmly spiced breakfast or brunch option that can be prepared ahead.
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons butter melted, unsalted
- 1 cup brown sugar packed (divided)
- 8 large egg beaten
- 1 cup milk whole
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 loaf French bread cut into thick slices
Instructions
- Whisk the butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, eggs, whole milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl.
- Arrange the bread in the pan and pour the custard over the bread, then tightly cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees before baking and remove the pan from the refrigerator, sprinkle remaining brown sugar over the pan and baked for 30-35 minutes.
