Ingredients
- 5 large fresh apples
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- sunflower oil (or canola) for frying
- 1 Tablespoon powdered sugar for dusting
Pancake batter:
- 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter
- ¾ cup lukewarm milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Pancake batter: Melt 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter either on the stove or in the microwave. In a separate bowl, mix 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour with ¼ teaspoon baking powder. Heat ¾ cup lukewarm milk until it is lukewarm, but not hot. In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 eggs, milk, ¼ cup granulated sugar, and ¼ teaspoon salt. Gradually stir in the flour mixture. Finally, whisk in the melted butter until you have a smooth batter. Let the batter stand for 10 minutes. If the batter is too thick, add a tablespoon of milk.
- Prepare apples: Peel 5 large fresh apples using a vegetable peeler. Place each apple on a kitchen cutting board, stem side down. Position a corer on top of the blossom end and press down to remove the core, forming a neat apple ring. If any core or seeds remain, adjust the corer slightly and press down again to remove them completely.
- Cut the apples into rings about ¼ inch thick, then lightly dust them with ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon.
- Heat sunflower oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat. Ensure the oil is at least ¼ inch deep in the pan for proper frying.
- Dip the apple slices in the pancake batter, coating both sides, and let the excess batter drip off slightly. Fry the battered apple rings in the hot oil for a minute on each side until golden brown. Repeat with the remaining apple slices until all the batter is used.
- Serve the apple rings warm, sprinkled with 1 Tablespoon powdered sugar .

Notes
- SERVING:
- The basic recipe makes 6-8 portions.
- SERVING: Fried apples are ideally served warm, but they can also be enjoyed at room temperature. For those with a sweet tooth, I recommend dusting them with powdered sugar before serving, especially if you used tart apples.
- TIP: For more festive occasions, serve the fried apples with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or drizzled with caramel sauce.
- This apple recipe can be easily prepared in a deep fryer. However, it is not suitable for an air fryer.
