Ingredients

  • 1 lb  paneer cut into 1.5-2 inch cubes
  • 1 cup red onion cut into 2 inch cubes, layers separated
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper cut into 2 inch cubes
  • 1/2 cup red bell pepper cut into 2 inch cubes
  • Lime wedges to garnish
  • Onion rounds to garnish
  • chaat masala optional
For marinade
  • 1/2  cup  PLAIN yogurt greek (also called hung curd)
  • 3/4  tablespoon ginger grated
  • 3/4  tablespoon garlic minced
  • 1  tablespoon lime juice
  • 2  teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder mild, adjust to taste
  • 1/2  teaspoon Ground Turmeric (Haldi powder)
  • 1  teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander powder (dhaniya powder)
  • 1  teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • 1/2 tablespoon Dried Fenugreek leaves (Kasoori Methi)

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Combine all ingredients for the marinade in a bowl and mix well. Add the paneer, red onions and bell peppers. Mix to coat on each side with the marinade. Let it rest for anywhere between 30 minutes to 24 hours in the refrigerator.
  2. When ready to cook thread the marinated paneer, peppers, and onions in the skewers alternating between each.
AirFryer Method:
  1. Lightly grease the air fryer basket.
  2. Arrange the paneer sticks in the air fryer. Lightly brush or spray with oil. Cook at 180 degrees or 360F for 5 minutes.
  3. Turn the paneer sticks and cook for 5 more minutes, then serve.
Oven Method:
  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Now using parchment paper or foil, line a baking pan. Place a rack on top. Place the skewers on the rack, lightly brush or spray with oil and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the paneer is roasted.
  3. To obtain the char markings, turn on the broiler in the Oven and broil the paneer tikka for 2-3 minutes. Keep an eye on the paneer as it broils to prevent it from burning.
Stovetop Grill Method:
  1. Spray a heated grill pan with some oil. Then line the skewers. Cook from all sides until they are golden and charred on the edges.
Outdoor Grill Method:
  1. Spray oil generously on the heated outdoor grill or line it with aluminum foil and spray with oil. This helps to avoid the paneer from sticking to the grill.
  2. Place the skewers on the grill, and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the paneer is roasted and has char marks on the edges. Make sure to turn the paneer skewers half way through.
Garnish & Serve
  1. Squeeze some lime juice on top. If you like, sprinkle some chaat masala for extra flavor. We love to serve this paneer tikka with cilantro chutney.

Notes

  • Marinate: Marinate for at least 30 minutes, but longer is ideal for more tender Tandoori Paneer  Tikka.
  • Meal Prep: Make a batch of this marinated Paneer and freeze for later use or meal prep for the week.
  • Skewers: I used bamboo skewers. To avoid burning the skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes before putting them together. If you have a batch of stainless steel or metal skewers on hand, you can use them without soaking them.
  • Make Paneer Tikka Bites: Skip the skewers and place the marinated paneer and veggies directly in the air fryer basket to make paneer tikka bites.
