Peanut Butter & Bacon Dog Treats
Peanut Butter & Bacon Dog Treats combine creamy peanut butter, quick oats, and crispy bacon bits into thick, rolled dough that bakes into crunchy, flavorful dogs snacks. The combination of nutty peanut butter and smoky bacon creates appealing aromas and textures to entice dogs. These treats are shaped using cookie cutters, baked until golden at the edges, and stored chilled or frozen for freshness. They suit homemade pet treat makers wanting a balance of hearty wholesomeness and savory hits for their dogs.
Ingredients
- 1 cup peanut butter Side Note: Double-check that your peanut butter does NOT contain Xylitol. This sweetener is highly toxic to dogs, creamy
- ¾ cup milk
- 1 egg large
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- ⅓ cup quick oats
- 3 Bacon cooked & chopped into bits, strips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until golden brown; drain paper towels. Chop into bits.
- Whisk together the peanut butter, milk, and egg until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour and the baking powder; mix well.
- Add the flour mixture to the peanut butter mixture until combined. Add the oats and bacon bits; mix well. The dough is thick and heavy.
- Working on a lightly floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
- Use a dog treat cookie cutter to cut out the desired shape and place it onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Place into oven and bake until the edges are golden brown, about 20-25 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
- Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator or freezer. My dog loves them right out of the freezer - especially on hot days! Enjoy.
