Peanut Butter Cookies For Dogs
These peanut butter cookies for dogs use oats, canned pumpkin, and peanut butter made solely from peanuts. The dough is rolled and cut into shapes before baking to achieve a crunchy, golden treat. The recipe avoids ingredients harmful to dogs and offers a homemade snack option that owners can prepare safely and easily for their pets.
Ingredients
- 1 ¼ cup oats plain, use either quick oats or rolled oats, not steel cut, divided
- ½ cup pumpkin canned, 1 tablespoon
- ½ cup peanut butter peanuts only, see notes
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350℉ and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a blender or food processor blitz the oats a few times until they become a powder to turn them into oat flour.
- Add one cup of the oat flour to a mixing bowl. Add pumpkin and peanut butter to the oat flour and mix well. The mixture will become a thick dough that feels a little grainy.
- Sprinkle the rest of the oat flour onto a clean work surface, about ¼ cup. Roll the dough to about a ¼ inch thickness with a rolling pin. Use a bone shaped cookie cutter to cut out the treats.
- Bake cookies for 10-12 minutes or until firm, these cookies should be a little crunchy and golden brown.
- Cool the cookies on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes, then you can give one to your favorite pup.
Notes
- Use peanut butter containing only peanuts; avoid those with xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.
- Pumpkin should be plain canned pumpkin without additives; frozen pumpkin can be used after defrosting and draining excess liquid.
- To achieve crispy cookies, pat pumpkin dry with paper towels before mixing.
- If dough is too wet, add additional ground oats one tablespoon at a time until firm.
- Bone-shaped cookie cutters or other 2-inch cutters can be used; alternatively, slice dough into squares.
