Pizza Hummus is a smooth or chunky blend of garbanzo beans, tomato paste, and a mix of Italian-inspired spices like basil, oregano, and crushed red pepper. This dairy- and sesame-free spread replaces tahini with nutritional yeast and olive oil, bringing a savory, cheesy flavor reminiscent of pizza toppings without typical allergens.
Ingredients
- 3 cups garbanzo beans
- 1 1/4 cups water
- 3 3/4 teaspoons basil (dried)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 3/4 cup nutritional yeast
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 4-5 cloves garlic
- 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper or to taste
- 1 1/2 teaspoons oregano
- 3/4 cup tomato paste
Instructions
- Put all ingredients in a food processor, or high-powered blender.
- Process/blend until the texture is smooth or somewhat chunky, as desired.
- Serve at room temperature, or chilled.
- Store in fridge.
Notes
- Nutritional yeast adds protein, B-vitamins, and iron, and may be fortified with B12 depending on the product.
- Some with MTHFR gene variations might want to avoid fortified nutritional yeast; non-fortified versions are available.
