Ingredients

  • 12 sweet Hawaiian rolls 1 package
  • ½ cup tomato paste 1 small can
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning divided
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt divided
  • 12-24 slices pepperoni
  • 1 ½ cup mozzarella shredded
  • 1 teaspoon garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted
  • Parmesan Cheese optional garnish
  • parlsey optional garnish

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Slice the rolls in half the long way into sandwiches. Use cooking spray to lightly oil the baking dish. Place the bottom half on a lightly oiled baking dish and set aside the top half.
  2. Spread the tomato paste over the bottom half of the rolls evenly.
  3. Mix together the Italian seasoning, onion powder and salt. Spread half of the spices evenly across the tomato paste, saving the rest for the top.
  4. Add the pepperoni evenly over the tomato paste and seasoning. Sprinkle the mozzarella over the pepperoni.
  5. Place the top half of the rolls on top and gently press down.
  6. Mix the melted butter and garlic together, then brush the butter mixture over the top of the rolls.
  7. Sprinkle remaining Italian Seasoning and onion powder evenly across the butter spread.
For The Oven
    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat the oven to 350-degrees.
  2. Cover with foil and place in the oven and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Garnish with parmesan cheese and parsely if desired.
For The Air Fryer
  1. Place the sliders in your air fryer in a single layer. Heat the air fryer to 350 degrees.
  2. Cook the sliders for 4-6 minutes uncovered, or until a light golden brown. Work in batches if your air fryer isn't big enough to place all the sliders in at once. Garnish with parmesan cheese and parsley if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder for the minced garlic.
  • Tomato sauce can be used instead of tomato paste, but spread sauce lightly or you may end up with a soggy sandwich than with tomato paste.
  • My air fryer is a toaster oven-style air fryer. I add a small layer of aluminum foil to help keep the melty cheese in one place for easier cleanup.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley or parmesan cheese if desired.
