Queso Blanco

This recipe will teach you how to make queso blanco from scratch just like they serve at your favorite Mexican restaurant (without Velveeta!). It's made of high quality cheese and fresh ingredients which come together to make the perfectly creamy dip!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound white American cheese, roughly chopped into 1" pieces
  • 3 tablespoons chopped green chiles
  • 2 tablespoons pickled jalapeno, diced (more or less to your liking)
  • 2 tablespoons juice from the pickled jalapenos
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • dash of cumin, to taste
  • kosher salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Add the cheese and milk to a large saucepan and heat over medium-low heat.
  2. Continue to stir until melted.
  3. Once melted add in green chiles, jalapenos, pickled jalapeno juice, onion powder, garlic powder, and cumin. Whisk to combine.
  4. Serve immediately with tortilla chips.
