Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons (1oz) butter
  • 2 tablespoons (15g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup milk any percentage*
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth or water
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Whisk in flour and cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute until flour starts to turn golden.
  2. Whisk in milk and broth, beating out any lumps as they form. Continue to cook, whisking constantly, until mixture begins to bubble and thickens to the consistency of thin gravy (mixture will thicken further as it cools), 3 to 6 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and whisk in garlic, and salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Serve over mashed potatoes, biscuits, or meat, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Approximate nutritional information is for 3 servings.
  • *Have your liquids measured out and ready to go before you start your roux. It's easier to get a smooth gravy if you can slowly stream your liquid in all at once rather than in partial cupfuls.
