Raisin Molasses Gems

Old fashioned raisin molasses gems recipe, straight from my Grandma's recipe box!

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses fancy
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. 
  3. Add the molasses and egg, mixing well.
  4. Whisk the dry ingredients together in a separate bowl, then add to the creamed mixture. Mix thoroughly. 
  5. Stir in the raisins. 
  6. Shape into one inch balls and roll in sugar. (I used a cookie scoop and omitted the sugar part). 
  7. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet, leaving space between them. 
  8. Bake for 12-14 minutes until they are browned on the bottom and top. These are better slightly underbaked.
