Ingredients

  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 8 eggs
  • ¼ cup Parmesan Cheese
  • ¼ cup mozzarella cheese
  • salt & pepper
  • fresh basil leaves

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. To make marinara sauce follow this simple recipe.
  2. You can bake eggs in oven-safe skillet or baking pan for a crowd or make single serving baked eggs by using small ramekins or smaller baking dish.
For a crowd-
    Cup of Yum
  1. Grease baking dish with cooking oil. Add 1 cup (or more) homemade marinara sauce or use store bought sauce. Spread the sauce.
  2. Crack 8 eggs into the pan depending on number of people you want to feed (2 eggs per person is best).
  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste
  4. Generously sprinkle fresh grated Parmesan and Mozzarella cheese.
  5. Bake eggs in pre-heated oven at 400F for 8 to 15 minutes or until set as desired (egg whites should be cooked and set i.e it’s still slightly raw and yolk is runny).
  6. Bake eggs for about 9-10 minutes if you want to have runny eggs.Bake for about 15 minutes if you prefer soft sticky eggs.Bake for about 18 minutes if you prefer well cooked eggs.
  7. Remove the pan from oven and let it rest for 3 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle with fresh shredded(or chopped) basil leaves and serve hot with toasted bread on the side.
  9. No matter what toppings you add to your egg bake recipe, bread for mopping into runny yolk eggs is mandatory!
Single serving baked eggs-
  1. Grease ramekin or small baking dish with oil. Ramekin I used was super tiny that could fit only one egg, highly recommend to use 2 eggs for 1 serving.
  2. Add 2 to 3 tablespoon homemade marinara sauce. Spread it.
  3. Crack one egg if ramekin is small or 2 eggs if the baking dish is a bit bigger.
  4. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Generously sprinkle Parmesan and Mozzarella cheese.
  6. Bake in pre-heated oven at 400F for 6 to 10 minutes or until set as desired.
  7. Remove the pan from oven and let it rest for 3 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle with fresh shredded (or chopped) basil leaves and serve hot with toasted bread on the side.

Notes

  • Additional topping suggestion: Here are some suggestions
  • Size of baking dish: While you can use any size or shaped dish for baking eggs, please use your best judgement in terms of the amount of marinara sauce or the number of eggs to add in the dish.
  • If the baking dish is too small, there are chances of over flowing when you bake.
  • How to say eggs whites are cooked?
  • The key to best baked eggs is to get runny yolk but the egg whites are just set and cooked and not jelly type i.e whites are still slightly raw.
  • Baking time varies: Note baking time will widely vary depending on the size of baking pan used.  For a serving of 4 with 8 eggs -
  •
