Ridiculously Easy Homemade Coffee Creamer (without Sweetened Condensed Milk)
This homemade coffee creamer blends half-and-half with sugar gently warmed to dissolve the sugar, then flavored with vanilla bean paste. It produces a creamy, sweet addition to coffee without using sweetened condensed milk. The creamer can be served warm or chilled and allows customization of sweetness and flavor extracts.
Ingredients
- 1 cup half-and-half see notes
- ¼ cup granulated sugar increase up to ½ cup for sweeter creamer
- ½-1 Tablespoon vanilla bean paste or flavoring of choice
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, whisk together half-and-half and sugar and warm over medium heat. Bring to a slight simmer until just beginning to bubble and the sugar is dissolved.
- Remove from heat and whisk in vanilla bean paste (or extract of choice).
- Let cool slightly before adding to an iced coffee, or use immediately in a hot coffee. Store in an airtight container in the fridge (noting the best-buy date on the cream used for length of time). Give it a good shake before adding to your morning cup of coffee.
Notes
- Yield is just over 1 cup; suggested serving size is about 2 tablespoons per coffee serving.
- For dairy-free options, canned coconut milk or barista-style oat milk can substitute half-and-half.
- Use heavy cream or a combination with half-and-half for a thicker, richer creamer.
- Additional flavor extracts besides vanilla can be added to customize the creamer.
