Ingredients
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ginger powder
- ¼ teaspoon allspice powder
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- 1 pinch clove powder
- ½ cup unsalted butter , at room temperature, cut into pieces
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 5 tablespoons raisins
- 4 tablespoons dried currants
- 1 large egg
- 3 tablespoons milk

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 F (175˚C) for 15 minutes.
- Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Sift the flour and baking powder into a large bowl.
- Add the softened butter and rub lightly between both hands, fingertips, until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
- Add all the spices, brown sugar and dried fruits and mix until all the ingredients are well incorporated.
- In a bowl, beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of milk.
- Make a well in the center of the flour mixture, add the beaten egg.
- Stir the dry ingredients into the egg mixture to create a stiff dough.
- If the mixture remains dry, add milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough holds together.
- Divide the dough into 12 rock-shaped mounds.
- Place them, well spaced out, on the baking sheets.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until golden and well puffed. They should be firm to the touch.
