Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. In a medium saucepan add sugar and cold water and mix well with a whisk.
  2. Over medium-high heat place the pan and watch for it to turn amber, about 15-20 minutes. Don’t stir during this time.
  3. Place the cream in the microwave for 30 seconds, just enough to make it warm.
  4. Turn the heat to the saucepan down to medium-low heat.
  5. Slowly pour the cream into the sugar mixture using a whisk to continuously stir.
  6. Allow to simmer for a few minutes until smooth, still stirring.
  7. Add the butter and the salt and turn off the heat.
  8. Stir the sauce until nice and smooth, the butter has melted and the salt dissolved.
  9. Serve over ice cream or your favorite dessert.

Notes

  • This makes a total of 1-1/2 cups of salted caramel sauce. I'm counting a "serving" as 1 tablespoon for a total of 24 servings.
