Salty Dog Cocktail
The Salty Dog Cocktail is a refreshing vodka or gin drink mixed with freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, served over ice in a glass rimmed with coarse sea salt. The salt rim contrasts the tart citrus flavor, enhancing the overall drinking experience. Optional grapefruit and lime garnishes add visual appeal and a hint of extra aroma.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup sea salt for rim, coarse
- ice
- 1½ ounces vodka or gin
- 4 ounces grapefruit juice freshly squeezed
- grapefruit optional for garnishing, wedge

Instructions
- Use your finger to run a bit of water around the rim of a cocktail glass. I like to use a large-ish rocks glass.
- Add the sea salt to a small plate or saucer and dip the water rimmed glass in the salt, gently moving around to coat.
- Fill the glass about ¾-full with ice.
- Add the vodka, grapefruit juice ,and stir with a bar spoon.
- Optionally garnish with a grapefruit wedge and lime slice and serve immediately.
- Recipe can be made up to 12 hours in advance and can be made in bulk but quadrupling, 10x'ing, etc. all proportions of all ingredients.
Notes
- Choose vodka or gin according to personal preference; vodka provides a neutral base while gin adds botanical notes.
- This cocktail is intended only for consumption by those for whom alcohol is legal and safe.
- It can be made ahead or in larger quantities by multiplying ingredient amounts while maintaining proportions.
