The Sazerac is a cocktail originating from New Orleans, named after the Sazerac brand from Forge et Fils. A combination of brandy or rye whiskey, absinthe, Peychaud's Bitters and sugar.

Ingredients

  • large ice cubes
  • 5 dashes of Peychaud bitters
  • 1 tablespoon sugar syrup , 50% sugar, 50% water
  • 2 oz. cognac (or American Rye Whisky)
  • 1 tablespoon Absinthe , to rinse glass
  • 1 lemon zest
  • EQUIPMENT
  • 1 Cocktail spoon
  • Old Fashioned Glass

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. This cocktail is made directly in an old fashioned glass.
  2. Add ice cubes to the glass to chill.
  3. Rinse with absinthe, then discard.
  4. Add the Peychaud bitters.
  5. Add the sugar syrup.
  6. Then pour in the main ingredient, cognac or American rye whisky.
  7. Mix everything.
  8. Garnish with a lemon zest.
