Ingredients

Ahi Tuna
  • 2 ahi tuna steaks
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • sesame seeds optional
  • chopped scallions optional
Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce, 2 teaspoons rice vinegar, and 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger. Give it a taste and adjust the flavors if needed then set aside.
  2. Season both sides of 2 ahi tuna steaks with salt and pepper .
  3. Add 2 tablespoons olive oil to a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the tuna for 45 seconds-1 minute on each side.
  4. Slice the tuna and serve it with the sauce! Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped scallions if desired.

Notes

  • My ahi tuna steaks were about 1" thick and I cooked them for 1 minute/side.
  • Be sure to use sushi-grade ahi tuna for taste and food safety reasons.
  • I like to keep fresh ginger in the freezer because it's easier to grate, and I always have some on-hand that way.
