Ingredients

  • 1 head lettuce shredded
  • 1/2 cup red onion diced (see note 1)
  • 2-3 celery sliced (about 1 cup, ribs
  • 12 ounces peas thawed (see note 2, frozen
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (see note 3)
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1/2 pound Bacon fried and crumbled

Instructions

  1. Spread the lettuce evenly in the bottom of a glass bowl. Top with red onion, celery, and peas.
  2. Spread mayonnaise on top of celery and sprinkle with sugar. Top with cheddar cheese and bacon. Cover and chill.

Notes

  • Soak diced onions in ice water for 10 minutes to mellow sharpness, then drain before layering.
  • Thaw frozen peas by rinsing under cold water and draining well to avoid excess moisture.
  • Sugar in the mayo dressing adds subtle sweetness but can be omitted if desired.
