Skinny Orange Sesame Chicken

The skinny version of one of your Chinese take-out favorites, this orange sesame chicken is not deep fried so it's lighter and healthier. It's SO EASY to make at home in only twenty minutes!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breasts cut into 1-inch pieces (about 2 breasts)
  • kosher salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • juice and zest of one orange
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated (about a 1" piece)
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds plus more for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • cooked rice, noodles, sesame seeds, and sliced green onions for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken with salt and pepper and sauté on medium-high in a large skillet until fully cooked through (about 5 minutes).
  2. Meanwhile, whisk together all remaining ingredients in a small bowl or measuring cup.
  3. Remove the cooked chicken to a plate.
  4. Add the sauce to the skillet and continue to heat on medium-high, stirring with the whisk, until thickened (about three minutes).
  5. Add the chicken back into the skillet and stir to cover in sauce.
  6. Serve chicken on brown rice with green onions and more sesame seeds, if desired.
