  • 1/2 small yellow onion diced
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 12 Hawaiian Rolls or Slider Rolls
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 Tablespoons butter melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 2 teaspoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Add the ground beef and diced onions to a large skillet and heat over medium high heat.  Brown the beef and onions, breaking up the meat into small pieces until the onions are translucent and beef is cooked through (5-7 minutes).
  2. Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, garlic powder, salt, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce and water.
  3. Bring the mixture to a low boil and cook for 4-5 minutes until the mixture has a sloppy Joe consistency.  Then remove the pan from the heat.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and spray a 9X13 baking pan with a non-stick cooking spray.
  5. Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half lengthwise and place the bottom of the rolls in the prepared baking dish.  Spread the beef mixture over the bottom of the rolls and top with the shredded cheese.  The top with the other half of the rolls.
  6. Stir together the melted butter and garlic salt.  Brush this mixture over the top of the rolls. Sprinkle the sesame seeds on top.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 15-20 minutes.  Then remove the foil and bake for 2-5 minutes to brown the top of the Hawaiian rolls.
  8. Remove from the oven and top with the chopped cilantro.  Let them cool slightly.  Then serve warm with your favorite toppings and enjoy!

Notes

  • These sliders are best served fresh, but you can refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
