Ingredients

  • 5 pounds pork shoulder butt roast
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 large quartered onion
  • ¾ cup cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl mix together 3 tablespoons brown sugar, 3 teaspoons salt, 1 teaspoon paprika, ½ teaspoon pepper, 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon ground mustard, and 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper. Rub all over pork the seasoning mixture generously all over 5 pounds pork shoulder butt roast.
  2. Add pork to the slow cooker. Add 1 large quartered onion along the sides. Add ¾ cup cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, and 1 tablespoon granulated sugar.
  3. Cook on LOW for 12 hours. Shred with two forks. Serve on buns with creamy coleslaw, if desired.
