South Carolina Yellow BBQ Sauce

This sauce is full of tangy flavor, but it's not overpowering at all. Toss shredded chicken or pork in this for a quick barbecue sandwich or brush it on chicken while grilling. This makes about 2 cups of sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1/2 cup yellow mustard
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter over low heat in a medium saucepan.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients to the pan and cook, whisking occasionally, over low heat for 30 minutes.
  3. Sauce will thicken slightly as it cools.

Notes

  • We use the classic American style yellow mustard in this recipe.
