Spicy Sriracha Green Beans

These Spicy Sriracha Green Beans are blanched then sautéed in sesame oil with garlic and coated in a sauce of soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, and sriracha. The result is tender-crisp green beans with a lively, spicy-sweet glaze enhanced by toasted sesame seeds if desired, making a flavorful side dish with an Asian-inspired profile.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound green beans washed and trimmed
  • 2 TBSP soy sauce gluten-free or regular, low sodium
  • 2 TBSP sweet chili sauce
  • 1 TBSP sriracha plus extra to taste
  • 1 TBSP sesame oil
  • 1 tsp garlic minced
  • 1-2 tsp sesame seeds optional, toasted

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Fill a large pan with 1 inch of water and bring to a boil. Add green beans and blanch for 3 minutes.
  2. While the green beans cook, fill a large bowl with ice water and set aside. Next whisk together your sauce by combining soy sauce, sweet chili sauce and Sriracha. I added an extra half TBSP of Sriracha to my sauce, making it about 1.5 total and found it perfectly spicy without going overboard. Feel free to add as much as you'd like to increase the heat, or adjust as desired based on your spice preference.
  3. Empty pan into a colander to drain and add beans to your ice water to halt the cooking process, then drain once cool. This takes about a minute.
  4. Reduce burner to medium heat and add your sesame oil to the pan. Sauté minced garlic for 30 seconds, or until fragrant and simmering, then return your green beans to the pan. Mix well to coat the green beans with the oil and garlic. Add your sauce and allow to simmer for a couple minutes, uncovered, to thicken the sauce. One desired tenderness is reached they're ready to eat! Stir so the Sriracha glaze coats the green beans and dive in!
  5. See post for tasty serving suggestions and meal pairings. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Use low sodium soy sauce to control saltiness if preferred.
  • Adjust sriracha quantity to suit your preferred level of spiciness.
