Ingredients
- 3 garlic finely diced, cloves
- 2 canola oil quantity in tablespoons
- 3 Tablespoons Chili oil
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
- 2 1/2 Tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 Tablespoon vinegar (White Vinegar or Chinese Black Vinegar)
- 1/2 teapoon black pepper
Optional:
- 1 star anise (optional)
- 1/8 teaspoon Chinese five-spice optional
Wontons or Dumplings:
- 10 to 12 ounce pkg. chicken wontons cooked according to package instructions, or pork wontons or dumplings
- green onions (sliced for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat a saucepan over medium-low heat. Add garlic, canola oil, chili oil, sugar, red chili flakes, soy sauce, vinegar, pepper, and star anise (if using) and whisk until combined. Cook until the sugar is dissolved, about 5 minutes.
- Remove the star anise. Check for seasonings and add more chili flakes or salt if needed.
- Cook wontons or dumplings according to package instructions. Pour the sauce over the cooked wontons. Sprinkle with green onions and serve.
