Ingredients
- 3 pounds top sirloin steak
- 1 tablespoon gravy mix
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 teaspoons garlic
- ½ cup diced onions
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- kosher salt and black pepper
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and then add 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
- Brown (sear) the beef cubes in batches until they develop a golden-brown crust. You don't need to cook them all the way through.
- Transfer the browned cubed steaks to the bottom of a crockpot or slow cooker.
- Sprinkle the au jus gravy mix over the steak pieces, then add minced garlic, diced onions, and Worcestershire sauce on top.
- Pour the cup of beef broth over the steak cubes and ingredients in the crockpot and combine.
- Place the slices of butter evenly on top of the steak mixture.
- Cover the crockpot with its lid and cook on low for 4-6 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the cube steak cooks to your desired level of doneness.
- Once cooked, give the slow cooker cube steak mixture a gentle stir to combine the flavors.
- Serve the juicy steak bites and delicious gravy over mashed potatoes or egg noodles with a side of steamed asparagus, green beans, or a fresh green salad. Enjoy!

Notes
- Thicken the Gravy: If you want a thicker gravy, mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with two tablespoons of cold water until it is smooth. Add it gradually to the crockpot during the last hour of cooking. Simmer the gravy until it reaches your preferred thickness.
- Preheat the Skillet: Make sure the skillet is hot before adding the steak cubes to achieve a good sear and caramelization.
- Brown in Batches: Don't overcrowd the skillet. This will ensure even browning of the steak cubes.
- Trim Excess Fat: Removing excess fat from the steak cubes helps keep the gravy from becoming greasy.
- Combine Ingredients in Crockpot: Combine the ingredients and liquids to ensure even distribution of flavor.
- Don't Overcook: Keep an eye on the steak cubes to prevent them from turning into overly tender meat.
