Steamed Rice

Steamed rice is one of the most useful foods you can make. It goes with just about anything, is a healthy choice, and, when done right, is a soft, warm comfort food.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt optional

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then drain thoroughly.
  2. In a medium saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Add the salt and rinsed rice, then stir.
  3. Reduce heat to low, cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, and simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until all water is absorbed and rice is tender.
  4. Remove from heat and let the rice stand, covered, for 5 minutes to finish the steaming process. Fluff with a fork before serving.
