Ingredients

  • 1 cup water filtered
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 16 ounces strawberries

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Clean strawberries and remove stems. If strawberries are large you can cut in half.
  2. Add water and sugar to a small saucepan. Heat on medium-high and cook until the sweetener dissolves. This will take about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the clean strawberries to the simple syrup and bring to a boil. Lower the heat to simmer and remove any foam that forms over the strawberries. Simmer for up to 25 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and strain syrup with a sieve or cheese cloth over a clean bowl. Discard fruit.
  5. Place the red syrup back in the pan. Simmer for up to an additional 15 minutes or untiled desired syrup texture. Cool and strain into clean jar a second time. .

Notes

  • For a syrup with the fruit, break fruit wit a fork or potato masher at step 3.
  • For a sugar free option, use a granulated sweetener like monk fruit, erythritol, allulose or a combination of your favorite varieties.
  • To preserve the syrup you can add 1 tablespoon of vodka after the simple syrup has cooled.
