Ingredients
- 2 Cups fresh cranberries
- ½ Cup water
- 1 ½ Cups granulated sugar divided
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Add the water and ½ cup of the granulated sugar to a pot on low heat. Cook for a few minutes, just until the sugar has melted. Remove from the heat and stir in the cranberries. Let sit in the warm sugar water for several minutes.
- Using a slotted spoon, remove the cranberries and place them on a wire rack, set over a pan, for a few minutes to cool.
- Add the remaining cup of sugar to a large dish and toss the cranberries in the sugar until well coated.
- Let cranberries dry for at least an hour on a wire rack. Store in refrigerator until ready to use.
Cup of Yum
Notes
- Once dried, they should be kept chilled in an airtight container. I put them in a tupperware in my fridge and they stay good for about 3 days.
- Absolutely. If you’re using frozen cranberries, let them partially thaw before soaking in the sugar water.
- Decorate frosted cakes with a wreath of sugared cranberries, add them to the top of your cheesecake or any rich and creamy dessert where you want to add cranberry flavor and holiday cheer.I also love to spear sugared cranberries on a toothpick to garnish Christmas cocktails and mocktails!
- The granulated sugar may “melt” off the cranberries over time. If that happens, don’t fret: just toss them in more sugar until they’re coated again!
