Sumac Sauce
Make salads and Middle Eastern dishes sing with this creamy sumac sauce made with sour cream, yogurt, lemon, olive oil, and garlic.
Ingredients
Sumac Sauce
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ cup low-fat yogurt plus more as desired, see notes, or Greek yogurt
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 to 2 tablespoons lemon juice plus more to taste
- 1 small clove garlic finely minced or crushed
- 1 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon sumac ground
- ½ teaspoon salt plus more to taste
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper plus more to taste, ground
Instructions
- Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl and stir to combine.
- Taste and add more lemon juice, salt, or pepper as desired. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.
Notes
- This recipe will make a little more than one cup of lemon sumac dressing.
- Nutritional information was calculated using low-fat traditional yogurt.
- If you like a thicker sumac sauce, use Greek yogurt over traditional yogurt. If you want a thin sumac dressing, use the traditional yogurt or thin the dressing even more with buttermilk.
