Taco Pizza

Taco Pizza combines pre-baked pizza crusts topped with a refried bean and salsa base, seasoned ground beef cooked with taco spices, shredded cheddar cheese, and fresh toppings like lettuce and tomato. Crushed tortilla chips add crunch on top after baking. Typically served with optional hot sauce and sour cream, this pizza merges Mexican-inspired flavors with a familiar pizza format for a hearty meal option.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, brown ground beef. Drain well. Stir in taco seasoning and water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered until thickened, about 10 minutes.
  2. Place crusts on un-greased pizza pans or baking sheets. In a medium bowl, combine refried beans and salsa. Spread evenly over pizza crusts. Top with taco meat mixture.
  3. Top with shredded cheese. Bake until the cheese is melted, about 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from oven. Sprinkle with lettuce and tomatoes. Drizzle with hot sauce or pass separately. Serve sour cream on the side.

Notes

  • Using pre-baked pizza crusts reduces overall cooking time and ensures a crispy base.
  • Basic pico de gallo can substitute for salsa by mixing diced tomatoes, red onion, cilantro, jalapeños, and citrus juice.
  • Store-bought taco seasoning packets simplify preparation; homemade blends can provide customized spice levels.
  • This recipe yields 2 pizzas, enough for 8 servings (approximately 1/4 pizza per person).
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to four days.
