Taco Ring

The Taco Ring is a savory ground chuck and shredded cheddar filling wrapped in overlapping crescent roll dough triangles formed into a circular shape. The seasoned meat mixture is folded over with dough to enclose it, then baked until golden brown. The ring is served with toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, guacamole, and sour cream for a festive main or appetizer.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground chuck
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper ground
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cumin ground
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon water (if needed)
  • 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
  • 2 ounce crescent rolls refrigerated
Optional toppings
  • lettuce shredded
  • diced tomatoes
  • taco sauce or salsa
  • guacamole
  • sour cream

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Heat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef until cooked through.
  3. Add the salt, ground black pepper, oregano, paprika, cayenne pepper, cumin, garlic powder, and ½ cup of water (if needed) and simmer for 3-5 minutes.
  4. Remove the ground beef and combine with the shredded cheddar cheese in a large bowl.
  5. Unroll the cans of crescent dough and separate all of the triangles.
  6. On a large baking tray or baking stone, arrange the triangles in a circle so the short ends of the triangles form the circle (the ends will overlap, that’s perfectly fine!)
  7. Spoon the ground beef and cheddar cheese mix onto the crescent rolls, following the circle made by the pieces.
  8. Fold the end of each triangle over the ground beef and into the center of the ring, pressing the dough onto the bottom layer of the crescent roll to secure it.
  9. Repeat the entire way around the ring until all of the triangles have been folded over.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the crescent dough is golden brown and cooked through. Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
  11. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Allow the cooked ground beef to cool slightly before mixing it with the crescent dough to prevent it from softening the dough prematurely.
  • If shaping the crescent dough into a ring is difficult, use a small bowl placed in the center of the baking sheet as a guide around which to arrange the dough triangles.
