Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 pinches salt
  • 1-2 teaspoons milk
  • 1/2 cup butter cold and cubed, unsalted
  • 1 egg large

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, powdered sugar, and salt.
  2. Add 1 teaspoon milk and 1/2 cup cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your hands, blend until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
  3. Mix in the egg until the dough begins to clump together. If there are still dry crumbs in the bottom of the bowl, add a little milk at a time until the dough clumps together without being dry.
  4. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and fit it into a 9-inch tart pan. Trim excess dough.
  6. Prick the bottom of the dough with a fork and then freeze the dough, covered, for 45 minutes.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
