Tartar Sauce

Tangy, sweet, creamy and delicious, this is the tartar sauce you'll want for everything from fish sticks to crab cakes and so many other seafood favorites.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons dill relish can use sweet relish or substitute chopped dill pickles, sweet pickles or bread and butter pickles.
  • ¼ teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon capers chopped
  • 1 tablespoon grated onion use a box grater or microplane
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried dill)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon Diamond Crystal kosher salt or 1/3 teaspoon Morton's
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • few dashes hot sauce

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, relish (or chopped pickles), lemon zest, lemon juice, dijon mustard, capers, grated onion, dill, salt and pepper and whisk to combine.
  2. Add a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce (optional) and whisk. Taste for seasonings and adjust as necessary -- adding more hot sauce if needed. Serve.

Notes

  • One serving is about 2 heaping tablespoons.
