Ingredients

  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil toasted
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar unseasoned
  • 1 tablespoon garlic I use a microplane zester to finely grate, finely grated, fresh
  • 1 tablespoon ginger finely grated fresh
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1½ tablespoons cornstarch

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, sesame oil, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger. Bring mixture just to a boil. Then decrease heat to keep mixture at a gentle simmer.
  2. In a small cup or bowl, stir together water and cornstarch to create a slurry.
  3. Then, while constantly whisking the soy sauce mixture, slowly pour the cornstarch slurry into the soy sauce mixture.
  4. Let the teriyaki sauce simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes or so. If the sauce is thicker than desired, add a little water to thin it out. Then remove saucepan from heat and let cool.

Notes

  • If you prefer a less-sweet teriyaki sauce, use half the amount of honey and brown sugar.
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
