Thai Basil Chicken (Easy Gai Pad Krapow)
This Thai Basil Chicken recipe combines ground chicken with fragrant holy basil, garlic, shallots, and fiery bird chilies, creating a spicy and aromatic stir-fry. The quick high-heat cooking method keeps the chicken tender while infusing it with savory soy and fish sauce accents. Served over rice, it offers a balanced plate with bold Southeast Asian flavors and a touch of sweetness from sugar or honey to round out the taste.
Ingredients
- 3 to 4 tablespoons neutral cooking oil generic cooking oil
- 3 Thai bird chili de-seeded if desired and thinly sliced, or holland chili
- 3 shallot thinly sliced
- 5 cloves garlic (sliced)
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 2 teaspoons sugar (or honey)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 1/3 cup chicken broth or water, low sodium
- 1 holy basil or Thai basil leaves, bunch
Instructions
- In a wok over high heat, add the oil, chilies, shallots and garlic, and fry for 1-2 minutes. Add the ground chicken and stir-fry for 2 minutes, breaking up the chicken into small bits.
