TikTok Cookie Croissant Recipe (Crookies)
TikTok Cookie Croissants (Crookies) combine flaky croissants with soft chocolate chip cookie dough layered inside and on top. The croissants are sliced and filled with portions of cookie dough, then baked until the outer croissant is crisp and browned while the cookie dough partially bakes inside to a gooey or firmer texture depending on bake time. This dessert balances buttery, flaky pastry with sweet, chocolaty cookie, making it a unique hybrid treat. The texture is rich and indulgent, suitable for a dessert or special snack.
Ingredients
- 4 large croissants pre-baked, or baked and cooled
Half Batch Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
- 1 tick butter room temperature, ½ cup, salted
- ¼ cup granulated sugar ⅓ cup for high altitude
- ½ cup light brown sugar packed (⅓ cup for high altitude)
- 1 large egg room temperature
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 ¼ cups for high altitude, unbleached
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt ¾ tsp if using unsalted butter
- powdered sugar for sifting
- 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet
Or instead of making your own cookie dough
- 1 package Chocolate Chip Cookie dough I tested using storebought Organic chocolate chip cookie dough, storebought
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375° F (190° C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
If making cookie dough (make it now)
- Cream (mix) butter and sugars together for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy. Add egg and mix for 1 minute. Add vanilla extract and mix to combine. In small bowl combine flour, baking soda and salt together, then slowly add to butter and sugar mixture until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips and refrigerate dough for 10 minutes.
- Using a serrated knife, slice pre-baked croissants (4) in half horizontally, splitting as if to make a sandwich.
- Smash two cookie dough balls in your hand (about 2 TBL each), then spread onto croissant with your fingers.
- Place top of croissant on top and divide one dough ball in half, placing on top of croissant. About a medium cookie scoop worth.
- Place on the baking sheet. Repeat this with the rest of the croissants and cookie dough.
- Bake in the oven for 9-15 minutes until the tops of the croissants and cookies are browned and the center cookie dough is still gooey. For gooier crookies bake less time, for more firm cookies bake longer.
- When the croissants are done, let them cool for about 5 minutes, then sprinkle with some powdered sugar to finish.
Notes
- Baking duration controls cookie dough doneness inside: shorter time yields gooey centers, longer yields firmer cookies.
- Leftover crookies store airtight in the fridge for up to five days; fully baked cookies also last at room temperature for two days.
- Reheat in a 350°F oven for 5 minutes wrapped loosely in foil, or use air fryer at 320°F briefly to soften cookie dough again.
- Unbaked assembled croissant cookies can be refrigerated up to two days or frozen up to two months before baking.
- Try different cookie dough flavors such as peanut butter or snickerdoodle for variety, and add nuts like walnuts or pecans if desired.
- Mini croissants can be used for smaller, individual portions.
