Vanilla Mug Cake
The Vanilla Mug Cake is a quick single-serving dessert made by mixing dry ingredients with melted butter, sugar, vanilla extract, and milk, then microwaving until puffed and cooked through. It produces a moist, tender mini cake with a subtle vanilla flavor, optionally enhanced by sprinkles for color and texture. This recipe is convenient for an individual sweet treat with minimal cleanup.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ tablespoon cornstarch
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- 2 tablespoons butter salted
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon Sprinkles optional
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, and baking powder.
- Add the butter to a large mug and microwave for 20 seconds or until melted.
- Stir the sugar, vanilla, and milk into the melted butter.
- Add the flour mixture and stir to form a batter. Gently mix in sprinkles if using.
- Place the mug in a microwave for 1 to 2 minutes or just until cooked through. It should be puffy but still shiny on the top. The cake will continue to cook as it rests. Rest for 2 to 3 minutes.
Notes
- Use a 12-ounce or larger mug to allow room for the cake to rise during cooking.
- Adjust microwave cooking time according to your microwave's wattage for optimal results; higher wattage requires shorter times.
- Rest the cake for 2 to 3 minutes after microwaving to allow it to finish cooking and set.
