Warm Marinated Olives

Warm Marinated Olives are gently heated olives combined with olive oil, toasted anise seed, garlic, rosemary, chili flakes, and citrus zest. This preparation warms the olives just enough to release aromatic flavors without cooking them, creating a savory and fragrant appetizer perfect for serving warm alongside drinks or small plates.

  • ⅓ c olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon anise seed or fennel seed
  • 1 clove garlic thinly sliced
  • 1 rosemary sprig about 3-4 inches long
  • ½ teaspoon chili flakes or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest

Instructions

  1. Preheat an oven safe bowl in the oven set to warm.Heat small sauce pan on low and gently toast anise seed until fragrant. Add olive oil and garlic, warming until fragrant and garlic is translucent but not coloring.
  2. Add remaining ingredients including drained olives and continue to warm on low approximately 3-5 minutes or until warmed through. Be careful not to let it get too hot, you do not want to cook the olives at all, only warm them. Squeeze the juice of ⅛-1/4 orange or lemon over and transfer to pre warmed bowl right away and serve warm.Put a small dish out for pits.
