Watermelon Agua Fresca Recipe (Agua de Sandía)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups watermelon fresh chunks in juice
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • lime wedges and leaves for garnish
  • mint wedges and leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Add the watermelon, water, lime juice, and sugar to a blender and blend on high speed until smooth. There will still be some very small pureed chunks.
  2. Next, strain the watermelon agua fresca through a strainer. You can use a chinois. thoroughly chill the agua fresca in the refrigerator before serving it.
  3. Dip a glass in lime juice and then sugar to make a sugared rim. You can also use salt.
  4. Chill the drink and then serve it in the sugared glass with a lime wedge and mint.

Notes

  • The recipe can be prepared up to two days in advance for convenience.
  • Store covered in the refrigerator for up to four days to maintain freshness.
  • Freezing is possible for up to three months; thaw in the refrigerator prior to serving or enjoy as a frozen sorbet.
  • It is acceptable if the watermelon contains some seeds since the mixture will be strained afterwards.
  • Adjust lime juice and sugar amounts to suit personal taste preferences.
