Ingredients

  • ½ cup fresh watermelon juice see Note below
  • 1½ ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1½ ounces blanco tequila
  • 1 ounce orange liqueur
  • Optional: coarse salt for salted glass rim + thin watermelon wedges and fresh lime wedges or wheels for garnish

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Add all ingredients to a small pitcher or jar (I use a 16-ounce mason jar). Stir it or put the top on and give a few good shakes to combine. Pour over 2 ice-filled glasses, dividing equally. Taste and adjust flavors if desired - add lime for more tartness, a bit of simple syrup or honey for extra sweetness. Watermelon can vary greatly in flavor and sweetness, so adjust as needed.

Notes

  • To make ½ cup fresh watermelon juice: Cut seedless watermelon into 1" cubes. Add about 1 cup of watermelon cubes to a blender or food processor, and blend until smooth. Strain through a fine sieve over a bowl; discard solids.
  • For 4 drinks (a small pitcher): Use 1 cup watermelon juice (from about 2 cups cubed watermelon), 3 ounces lime juice, 3 ounces tequila, and 2 ounces orange liqueur. Stir all ingredients in a pitcher up to 4 hours prior to serving, and refrigerate. Then divide between 4 ice-filled glasses, and garnish.
  • For 8 drinks (a large pitcher): Use 2 cups watermelon juice (from about 4 cups cubed watermelon), 6 ounces lime juice, 6 ounces tequila, and 4 ounces orange liqueur. Stir all ingredients in a pitcher up to 4 hours prior to serving, and refrigerate. Then divide between 8 ice-filled glasses, and garnish.
  • For a lighter watermelon margarita refresher: Pour half the amount for 1 regular drink into a tall glass with ice. Then top with cold club soda. Add a sprig of fresh mint, if desired.
