White Chocolate Popcorn

White Chocolate Popcorn is made by coating freshly popped gourmet white popcorn with melted white candy melts. Optional food coloring or flavorings can be added, and colored candy melts can be drizzled on top for decoration. The result is a sweet, crunchy snack with a creamy white chocolate coating that hardens for an easy-to-eat treat.

Ingredients

  • 3 bags Popcorn gourmet white, microwave
  • 24 ounces white candy melts (Wilton brand works great)
  • 2 drops Food Coloring optional
  • 2 drops flavoring optional
  • 8 ounces Candy Melts optional, colored

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Spread a large piece of wax paper out on the counter top.
  2. Pop three bags of microwave popcorn in the microwave according to the directions. Place popcorn in a large bowl and shake the bowl back and forth to get the un-popped kernels to the bottom of the bowl. Gently transfer the popped corn to another large bowl. Throw out the un-popped kernels (we don't want to break any teeth!)
  3. Place the white candy melts into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at 50% power or defrost setting for 1 minute. Stir thoroughly, being sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl. If the candy is not completely melted, microwave for another 30 seconds and stir again. Repeat this process until the white chocolate is completely melted and smooth. Place 1/4 of the melted candy in a separate bowl and set aside.
  4. Pour the white chocolate over the popcorn and toss until the popcorn is covered. Spread the popcorn over the wax paper and let it cool. The white chocolate will harden and not melt on your hands when you pick it up.
  5. Add food coloring and flavoring of your choice to the saved melted candy.
  6. Using a fork, drizzle the colored candy over the white chocolate popcorn and let it cool.
  7. Once cooled, the white chocolate popcorn can be kept in an airtight container or sealed plastic bag until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Remove un-popped kernels after popping to avoid broken teeth or choking hazards.
  • The candy melts should be heated at reduced microwave power or defrost setting, stirred every 30-60 seconds for even melting and to prevent burning.
  • Drizzling with a second color of melted candy melts enhances appearance and allows flavor customization.
