Zesty Homemade Chili Sauce

This sweet and hot chili sauce is the perfect easy-to-make homemade condiment!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons onion flakes
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dry mustard powder
  • salt to taste

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan.
  2. Simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes or until the sauce has thickened.
  3. Taste and season with additional salt if needed.
  4. Cool and refrigerate up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Uses for Chili Sauce
  • Mix it into meatloaf or mix it 50/50 with ketchup as a great meatloaf topping or 50/50 with bbq sauce for the best rib sauce.
  • Serve it with burgers, hot dogs, Chili Cheese Dogs or wings.
  •  It's great for dipping popcorn shrimp or to use when making a quick cocktail sauce.
  • Add extra zip to everything from sloppy joes to spaghetti sauce.
  • Stir it into homemade thousand island dressing or mix with mayonnaise for a french fry sauce.
  • Use it in place of ketchup in Grape Jelly Meatballs.
