2-minute toasted bread with olive oil and salt (the easiest side dish)
This quick toasted bread recipe features small slices of various breads toasted and finished with olive oil and sea salt. The result is crisp, warm bread with a fragrant olive oil coating and a hint of saltiness, offering a simple and versatile side dish or snack that complements a variety of meals.
Ingredients
- 8 lices bread [small slices of fresh bakery or Italian style bread (wholemeal, rye, sourdough, Turkish, Ciabatta, pitta... ) If you only have ordinary large slices of bread, use 4 and cut in two]
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (roughly- I don't usually measure the amount)
- salt to taste (freshly ground e.g. sea salt)
Instructions
- Toast the bread in a toaster or under the grill/broiler.
- Put the toast on a serving platter, then drizzle all over with the olive oil. Sprinkle over salt to taste.
- Scatter over a small handful of fresh herbs e.g. oregano, thyme, basil, parsley (optional). Serve while still warm.
Notes
- Frozen bread slices can be toasted directly without thawing.
- Various breads like sourdough, ciabatta, Turkish or Greek pitta can be used depending on preference.
- Large bread slices can be halved after toasting for manageable portions.
- Garlic bread variation: rub toasted bread with garlic clove before drizzling with oil and salt.
- Optional flavor additions include paprika, chili flakes, lemon juice, and fresh herbs.
- Store leftover toast in the refrigerator and re-toast gently to refresh.
