7 Layer Dip

7 Layer Dip features layers starting with refried beans, creamy taco-seasoned cream cheese and sour cream, guacamole, shredded cheddar, diced tomatoes, sliced olives, and green onions. The layered dip delivers a combination of smooth textures and fresh, mild toppings, chilled before serving. It's ideal for gatherings and pairs well with chips or crackers for sharing.

Description

This layered dip begins with a base of canned refried beans spread evenly in a dish. A mixture of softened cream cheese, sour cream, and taco seasoning adds a spiced, creamy second layer. Guacamole is then spread on top, followed by shredded cheddar cheese for mild sharpness and texture. Diced Roma tomatoes add fresh juiciness, sliced olives provide briny contrast, and chopped green onions give a subtle onion flavor and color.

The dip is chilled at least an hour before serving to let the flavors meld and layers firm up slightly. Its textures range from creamy and smooth to chunky and fresh, creating a combination commonly appreciated at parties or casual meals. This dish is best served as a communal dip accompanied by tortilla chips or similar bite-sized vehicles.

The recipe notes that total preparation time excludes chilling. Nutritional information can vary by brand and should be used as a general guideline only.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 16 oz refried beans canned
  • 1 cup guacamole prepared
  • 4 oz cheddar cheese shredded
  • 2-3 Roma tomato diced
  • 1 (2.25 oz) can olives drained, sliced
  • 2-3 green onions sliced

Instructions

  1. Place the cream cheese in a bowl and beat until light and fluffy. (I like to do this with an hand mixer.) Add the sour cream and the taco seasoning and stir until combined. Set aside.
  2. In the bottom of an 11x7-inch baking dish, spread the refried beans into an even layer.
  3. Spread the cream cheese mixture over the beans carefully, keeping everything in its own layer.
  4. Add the guacamole next, followed by the shredded cheese.
  5. Top with the tomatoes, olives, then the green onions.
  6. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least an hour before serving.

Notes

  • Allow the dip to chill for at least one hour to let the layers set and flavors blend before serving.
