Addictive Izakaya Style Salted Cabbage (Yamitsuki Cabbage)
This is a simple, flavorful side or snack known as Yamitsuki Cabbage, featuring green cabbage rubbed with a mixture of toasted sesame oil, sesame seeds, garlic, black pepper, salt, and Chinese-style chicken bouillon powder. The seasoning is evenly applied to cabbage pieces, resulting in a savory, slightly salty, and aromatic dish often garnished with optional chili threads.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ tbsp sesame oil toasted
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- ½ tsp chicken bouillon powder Chinese-style, granules
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp garlic or grated garlic clove, paste
- ¼ tsp black pepper ground
- 100 g green cabbage spring cabbage, sweetheart cabbage or similar
- chili threads optional, to garnish
Instructions
- Take a large mixing bowl and add 1 ½ tbsp toasted sesame oil, 1 tbsp sesame seeds, ½ tsp Chinese-style chicken bouillon powder (granules), ¼ tsp salt, ¼ tsp garlic paste and ¼ tsp ground black pepper. Mix thoroughly.
- Wash 100 g green cabbage and cut it into rough pieces. Add the cabbage to the bowl and rub the seasoning over the leaves, making sure it's evenly distributed. (Wear gloves if you have sensitive skin or any cuts on your hands.)
- Transfer to a serving dish and top with chili threads (optional).
- Enjoy as a side or snack!
